Studio2 Architects was formed out of the renowned New Zealand architectural studio Crosson Clarke Carnachan Architects. Led by leading architect Paul Clarke and Brett Gerrard, the studio is supported by a team of specialists.
The philosophy shared by our team is a simple one; that the practice of architecture can sometimes be too remote and removed from client expectations. We share a common belief that the best architecture is achieved through transparency and teamwork between clients, architects, builders, consultants and suppliers.
Paul Clarke B Arch (Hon), FNZIA
Born in the South Island, Paul is well known for producing architecture which embodies both sensitivity and restraint. Exposure to the powerful New Zealand landscape, and an active interest in both art and craftwork, has long inspired Paul to combine a love of sculptural form and materials with a rich attention to detail.
Paul lives in Auckland with his wife and two sons and loves travelling, skiing, mountain biking, all outdoor activities and cooking for family and friends. Fortunately, he still gets to spend time working and playing in beautiful Central Otago.
He has a passion for architecture outside the studio too – participating as a judge in architectural awards and as a guest lecturer at various universities.

Ash Kumar B.A.S, MArch (Prof.)
Ash brings an endless curiosity along with fresh perspectives to the studio. After graduating with his Masters of Architecture (Prof.) degree from Unitec, Ash has worked closely with Brett and Paul to gain a broad and deep insight into many projects. His passion is getting to know the client, and ensuring that whatever is delivered meets the brief.
Ash has a deep interest in aviation, motorsports, and enjoys fishing.

Brett Gerrard NZCAD
Auckland born, Brett has practiced in architecture for almost 30 years and brings an experienced technical background to every project. Brett has a remarkable design sensibility, which, when combined with his detailing skills, brings a powerful edge when transforming design concepts into architectural realities.
Brett has brought a ‘steady head and hand’ to many award-winning projects. Although he is renowned for keeping a cool head in the studio, Brett is passionate about sport, family and the pursuit of excellence in whatever he does.

Lea Koch B.A.S (Hons.) Co-op
Lea has a passion for working with clients to design a home they will appreciate for years to come. She strives to infuse every project with a sense of responsibility towards its inhabitants, its context and its environment through thoughtful details and material choices. Lea previously worked with architects in Canada and Germany before joining the Studio2 team, and is excited to now call New Zealand home.
Outside the studio, Lea can be found exploring New Zealand’s many tramps, gardening and occasionally designing and building her own furniture.
